Stings, bites, scrapes, bruises, headaches, pimples, boils! You name it our Thieves Oil Balm can help!
DESCRIPTION This is our updated version of an old recipe from medieval times using sunflower and candelilla wax instead of beeswax so it is suitable for vegans and also eco-friendly compostable cardboard pots.
Thieves Oil is an essential oil blend based on a recipe from around the 15th century. It was said that when the bubonic plague was sweeping through Europe, people noticed that four notorious thieves, who were also known to sell spice, miraculously never contracted the highly infectious plague. When they were arrested the thieves offered to give the judge the recipe of their secret blend of herbs and oils in return for their freedom.
Over the centuries the recipe has evolved, but most versions still include Rosemary, Clove, Cinnamon, Eucalyptus and Lemon. As you can imagine, the aroma is wonderful. Some say it smells of Christmas whilst others compare it to the smell of Coca Cola!
HOW TO USE The list of uses for Thieves Oil is endless. Some find it useful for insect stings or as a bug repellent. It can be used as a decongestant or you can put on temples to relieve a headache and colds. Its said to help tired feet and toe nail fungus and also atheletes foot. It soothes burns, scrapes and bruises. The list goes on to include helping boils, pimples, warts, acne and wrinkles!
Apply gently to the affected area but don't rub into broken skin and discontinue using if any irritation occurs.
GOOD TO KNOW We try to source as many organic and fair trade ingredients as possible. These balms are 85% organic.
We love to recycle and are always on the lookout for better packaging. We're pleased with being able to use eco-friendly card pots that are compostable and hopefully fully composted within two years. We also use recycled biodegradable paper labels.
Sometimes natural ingredients act differently to products that have added chemicals and preservatives. Because the Thieves Oil is full of butters, oils and waxes you may notice it softens or melts in hot weather. Just pop it in a cool place for a while. Alternatively in very cold weather there may be slight shrinkage which is completely normal.
There are some allergens in this product which are found naturally in essential oils. Limonene, Linalool, Geraniol and Citronellol. Although very small in quantity, it is always best to check if these are ok to use if you are pregnant. Discontinue use if any irritation occurs.
