A TWO MINUTE READ ABOUT FACE OILS
Do we need to use a face oil when we already use a moisturiser? It depends but it's probably better for your skin if you do.
Moisturisers are great for protecting and hydrating the skin. Essentially a moisturiser contains water and has additional ingredients that will then hold it in and also draw more moisture into your skin. They usually contain;
HUMECTANTS - like glycerin which attract water molecules and draw them into the skin givng a softer and smoother appearance.
EMOLLIENTS - which are used to soften and also help to strengthen the outer layer of skin by filling in the spaces between skin cells. They also act as a layer to seal moisture in.
OILS - there are many different types of oils in moisturisers that are good for your skin but are mostly all-rounders that help the other ingredients with protection. Often they are the types of oils that dont penetrate the skin as deeply as oils chosen for specific benefits.
These oils can be large fatty acid molecules and if they’re too big to penetrate the skin layers, they will sit on top and act as a barrier along with the other ingredients.
All oils have different molecule sizes so its good to have some extra help from those that are small enough to penetrate through to the deeper layers. This means that when you put specific oils on your face it will help supplement the natural oils your skin produces and alleviate some common skin problems.
Different oils have different benefits. Avocado oil, helps break-outs and spots with anti-inflammatory or antioxidant properties or Rice Bran oil which is packed with vitamins and minerals.
Dry skin especially can gain big benefits. Specific oils can help repair the skin barrier as well as provide an extra layer to prevent further loss of moisture. If this is added into a holistic approach (drink more water and add a moisturiser on top) then you'll quickly see results.
Alternatively, even skin that’s not dry can benefit from oils. The right face oil can help balance skin that may have oily or inflammed patches.

You can use a few drops on other dry patches of your body not just on your face or when lips are feeling tight and dry.
They are amazing for makeup touch ups. Instead of adding more makeup, pat some oil on to revive the makeup you’ve already got on.
Use to smooth eye brows and also soften cuticles and help smooth stray hair and finally you can use your oils as both a make up remover and a cleanser.
